Lawyer suing Worcester, countersued by city

February 27, 2013

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The lawyer for a woman who sued the city of Worcester alleging civil rights violations, has himself become a defendant in the case.

In response to the lawsuit brought by Nga Truong, city lawyers have hit back with a third-party complaint against her attorney, Edward Ryan Jr.

Ryan sued the city of behalf of Truong, who was 16 in 2008 when she was charged with killing her infant son. She was detained for almost three years before prosecutors dismissed a murder charge after a judge ruled her confession to police was coerced.

The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/Wht0EB ) reports that the city’s complaint claims that if Truong is entitled to damages, then Ryan is as much to blame because he took too long to get the confession dismissed.

Ryan refused comment.
