Pair Accused of Shooting People with Blow Guns

April 20, 1991

LANSING, Mich. (AP) _ Two young men allegedly used blow guns to fire 7-inch darts from a car at two passers-by, police said Saturday. Neither victim was seriously hurt.

The men, aged 19 and 21, were charged with conspiracy to assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, which carries up to 10 years in prison. Under state law, they cannot be named until they are arraigned. A date for the hearing was not immediately set.

The men were being held in Ingham County Jail.

A 20-year-old man reported he was hit in the arm by a dart shot from a passing car as he crossed a street early Friday, Lansing Police Lt. Jerry Miller said.

About 20 minutes later, a Michigan State University student was walking on the sidewalk when a car pulled up next to her and its occupants tried to start a conversation with her, said East Lansing Police Lt. Gary Howell. The woman kept walking and was shot in the chest with a dart, Howell said.

Both victims were treated at a hospital and released.

A witness got a license plate number and police arrested two men, seizing blow guns and several darts from the car. The darts were about 7 inches long with 3-inch points, said Kim Warren Eddie, a county prosecutor.
