More precipitation expected for rain-weary North Texas
DALLAS (AP) — A storm system bringing heavy rain and flooding to much of the Midwest continues to lash North Texas as waterways overflow their banks and force people from their homes.
National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Stalley said Friday that up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) of rain has fallen over the last three days in parts of North Texas.
He says the rain will continue into Saturday, when areas of East Texas could see hail and the possibility of tornadoes.
Stalley says the Dallas-Fort Worth area has far exceeded its normal rainfall amount for February of about 2.5 inches (6 centimeters).
Nearly two-dozen homes were evacuated Thursday in the Dallas suburb of Rockwall when a lake overflowed.
A flood watch remained in effect Friday for much of the region.
