BOSTON (AP) _ Patrik Elias scored 5:26 into the third period as the New Jersey Devils forged a 1-1 tie with the surging Boston Bruins on Monday night.

Sergei Samsonov scored for the Bruins, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games (3-0-3), while the Devils moved past Philadelphia for the best record in the Eastern conference.

Byron Dafoe, 3-0-2 in Boston's last five games, stopped 32 shots by the Devils, while Martin Brodeur had 31 saves for New Jersey.

Samsonov's goal came with Boston skating on a power play 20 seconds into the third period. Cutting in from the right circle, he beat Brodeur with a back-hander inside the far post after collecting Dmitri Khristich's pass from the right boards.

New Jersey tied it when Elias scored off a rebound after Dafoe mishandled Scott Niedermayer's redirected shot.

Neither team had a good scoring chance in overtime.

In Brodeur's only other appearance against Boston this season, he stopped 17 shots in a 2-0 win Nov. 8.

In the second period, each team had one power play, with neither club coming close to a goal. During New Jersey's man advantage, Boston had the best opportunity, but P.J. Axelsson misfired on a two-on-one break and Brodeur made the save.

There was a goal in the second period, but it was disallowed by referee Lance Roberts because New Jersey's Krzysztof Oliwa clearly kicked Niedermayer's rebound into the net at 11:14.

Oliwa was given a match penalty after a third-period fight with Boston's Ken Baumgartner.
