BEAVERTON, Ore. (AP) _ Gary Mage edged Barry Gurney by five pins to advance to Friday night's championship match in the Professional Bowlers Association Tour's PBA Northwest Senior Classic.

Mage, a 50-year-old rookie from Spokane, Wash., had a 42-game pinfall total of 10,237. John Handegard was third at 10,202, Pete Couture fourth at 10,192 and Donald Hargraves took the final spot at 10,186.

Don Johnson, who led the previous two rounds, just missed a spot in the final, finishing sixth at 10,170. Earl Anthony, competing in his second event since coming out of a five-year retirement, was seventh at 10,109.
