Sandra Burke: What a partnership

May 2, 2019

I’d like to take this moment and thank the sponsor of our annual Easter Day meal. Since 2003, Chartwells Winona has been donating and preparing the ham dinner served at this celebratory event. Curt Coshenet, Director of Saint Mary’s University Dining Services; John Sinniger, Director of Winona State University Dining Services and Lisa Laehn, a server at SMU, spent their morning preparing the food off-site then transported it to The Eagles Club. This year we served 209 meals to folks looking for companionship and delivered 27 meals to the homebound.

Our host, The Eagles Club, has been supporting this dinner ever since I coordinated my first Easter dinner as director of Winona Volunteer Services (WVS) in 2002 with one of our board members, Gretchen Cook. The Eagles Club provides the space, food containers, and other supplies at no charge so WVS can provide this free congregate meal on Easter Sunday.

Special thanks to the great group of volunteers that WVS recruits every year to deliver meals to the homebound, set the tables, check guests in, work the kitchen, serve the meals and assist with clean-up. Your time and energy is genuinely appreciated by the people you serve.

In all, this wonderful meal is possible because of the amazing partnerships we have.
