Group Allows Owner To Change Miniature Horse’s Racially Offensive Name
IRVING, Texas (AP) _ A woman who bought a miniature horse without knowing its registered name included a racial epithet may change its racially offensive name without affecting its pedigree, officials ruled.
The executive board of the American Miniature Horse Association voted Friday to allow Linda Rose of Atacosa to modify the offensive portion of the horse’s name, Nigger Boy’s Little Flash.
The board also voted unanimously to give the organization’s registrar the right to request that any names derogatory to race, creed, color or nationality of origin be changed.
Ms. Rose had purchased her miniature horse by lot number, unaware of its registered name. She had complained about being unable to change the name after finding she could not enter it in horse shows without using its full name.
She had asked to change the horse’s name to N.B. Little Flash.
