CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) _ Roger Smith scored 18 points and Tennessee-Chattanooga downed Appalachian State 68-54 in a Southern Conference game for coach Mack McCarthy’s 200th career victory.

McCarthy is in his 10th season at Chattanooga.

The Moccasins (15-9, 10-2) also got 15 points from Brandon Born.

The Mountaineers (6-18, 3-9) were led by Chad McClendon’s 25 points and 18 rebounds.

A basket by McClendon pulled Appalachian State to within 16-11 with 13 1/2 minutes left in the first half before the Mocs ran off 14 straight points to take control. Rodney Lemons and Marcus Watkins each hit a 3-pointer in the run, and Watkins added another bucket.

UT-Chattanooga’s lead reached 19 points in the half and the Mocs were up by 12 at the break. The Mountaineers could get no closer than 11 points in the second half.
