Sonny Bill Williams to miss League World Cup
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Sydney Roosters second rower Sonny Bill Williams has made himself unavailable for the New Zealand rugby league team to defend its World Cup title in Britain next month, fueling speculation he may be planning a return to rugby union.
Williams, who was a member of the All Blacks team that won the Rugby World Cup in 2011, on Tuesday forfeited the chance to become a World Cup winner in both rugby codes. He also won a Super Rugby title in 2012 with the Chiefs before switching codes and winning Australia’s National Rugby League last weekend with the Roosters.
Williams is yet to reveal whether he will remain in rugby league or return to rugby union, most likely to the Chiefs.
