Elizabeth Ann Welke

November 14, 2018

By the grace of God, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Welke was received into heaven on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.

Betty was born on Aug. 18, 1930, in Wrightstown, to Gertrude (Schaeuble) and Hugo Kielgas. Betty attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She taught at St. John’s Lutheran School in West Bend from 1949-1950. She was joined in Christian marriage to Norman Welke on Aug. 18, 1951. They were blessed with nine children. Once most of the children were in school, Betty worked at the Watertown Hospital. She dearly loved the Lord and she and Norman shared that faith with their family and friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown and served on various committees and groups. She and Norman loved their family, visited them often and had many family gatherings.

Betty had a lifelong love of reading which she passed on to her family. She also had a special talent for creative writing.

Betty is survived by her children: Anne (Tim) Mackey of Madison, Naomi (Ken) Stein of Milwaukee, Ellen (Ron Disrude) Brown of Lake Mills, the Rev. Paul (Dawn) Welke of Austin, Minnesota, Joel (Jackie) Welke of Watertown, Jon (Tammy) Welke of Fort Atkinson, Tim (Tina) Welke of La Crosse, Nancy (David) Ring of Waco, Nebraska, Andrew (Sue) Welke of Central Square, New York; 35 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Kielgas of Kaukauna and Donald Kielgas of Fort Myers, Florida; a sister-in-law, Grace Friske of Blue Mounds; and other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Welke; a sister, Carol Piepgras; and a grandson, Peter Mackey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Brett Brauer officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
