SAN MARINO (AP) _ Ecuador's Luis A. Morejon, ranked 214th in the world, defeated Italy's Omar Camporese in the opening round of play Monday at the $300,000 San Marino International tournament.

Camporese, the 1990 runner-up, was among the favorites to win the event. Morejon beat him 6-4, 6-4.

Also, Spain's Fernando Vicente ousted fifth-seeded Fernando Meligeni of Brazil 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, and No. 6 seed Julian Alonso of Spain lost to fellow Spaniard Juan Viloca 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).

In other matches, Jacobo Diaz ousted fellow Spaniard Albert Portas 6-2, 6-2; Spain's Javier Sanchez eliminated Pietro Angelini of Italy 6-4, 6-2; Mariano Hood of Argentina defeated Romanian Andrei Pavel 6-1, 6-2, and Italy's Vincenzo Santopadre beat Marat Safin of Russia 6-2, 6-0.
