Commission holds 1st meeting to advocate for NC athletes
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina legislative committee that advocates for college athletes has met for the first time.
The Legislative Commission on the Fair Treatment of College Student-Athletes met Wednesday at the General Assembly.
Committee members were hearing from officials from the NCAA, the National College Players Association and former college athletes, and discussing athlete welfare, insurance and injury prevention.
The commission was formed earlier this year to “examine the needs and concerns” of athletes in the University of North Carolina system. It is required to submit a report on the results of its study, including any legislative proposals, by March 1.
