WARNER, N.H. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a New Hampshire man to a minimum of 12 ½ years in prison for sexually assaulting a child at gunpoint.

The Concord Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/2v7mVgp ) 50-year-old Ricky Flanders was sentenced Thursday for the assaults that took place in 1988 and 1993.

Judge Richard McNamara said during sentencing while Flanders may have been a good father to his two children, it's not unusual for sexual predators to have a double life.

His public defender argued for a lower sentence citing how long ago the alleged assaults occurred.

Assistant Merrimack County Attorney David Rotman said Flanders' punishment should be significant whether the crime occurred yesterday or several years ago.

Flanders maintains his innocence.
