One finalist withdraws from Scottville city manager search

David BossickMay 21, 2019

The Scottville City Commission will be interviewing two candidates, not three, for the city manager’s position on Tuesday, May 29.

Interim City Manager Steve Brock said James “Toby” Van Ess withdrew his name from consideration because of family health matters. Van Ess is the township supervisor and zoning administrator for Tallmadge Charter Township in Ottawa County.

That leaves Courtney Magaluk, a project manager for the City of Grand Rapids, and Dale Stuart, the township supervisor in Oakland Charter Township in Oakland County, to interview.

“I think (the commission) will just go for two (interviews) for now,” Brock said.

Brock said the commission could request to interview an alternate, or fourth, candidate.

The commission will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, with the interview for Magaluk scheduled to begin at about 1:30 p.m. Stuart’s interview is expected to begin at approximately 3 p.m., Brock said, as each candidate will have 90 minutes in front of the commission.
