Doctor’s License Lifted In Connection With Baby’s Hot-Tub Death
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The State Department of Professional Regulation issued an emergency order suspending the license of a doctor over the hot-tub death of a newborn girl.
Albert Sneij said early today that on Wednesday he received DPR Secretary Tom Gallagher’s order telling him to close his office at once. Sneij declined to comment further.
The order said Sneij’s conduct amounted to gross malpractice, ″so far below the appropriate standard of care required as to border on the absurd.″
DPR officials said an emergency order was required because Sneij posed a danger to the public health.
Sneij had videotaped the Nov. 1 delivery of a patient, the DPR said. Agency documents show the woman spent 33 hours in labor in Sneij’s office in Miami Beach.
During delivery, the doctor placed the woman in a hot tub, where the birth took occurred, the DPR says. The baby was left in the water for more than a minute, when Sneij tried resuscitation unsuccessfully, the DPR order said.
