Familiar Face Set to Return to Lowell School Department
LOWELL -- The School Department is set to hire a familiar face to fill the much-talked-about transportation and finance position.
John Descoteaux, who left Lowell Public Schools as its transportation director about a year ago to join North Reading Transportation (NRT), is expected to be appointed as the assistant business manager for transportation and finance Wednesday evening.
His annual salary will be $95,000 -- and he will receive a 2-percent raise in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Descoteaux is currently employed by the Worcester School Department in its transportation department.
He could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday morning.
In addition on Wednesday, the School Committee will enter executive session to discuss the proposed termination for Superintendent of Schools Salah Khelfaoui. Last month, the School Committee voted 4-3 to start the process of terminating the superintendent. Khelfaoui remains on paid administrative leave.
Furthermore, the school board is set to select a firm for a financial audit, which is related to the superintendent controversy. In the same vote that started the process of terminating Khelfaoui’s contract, the School Committee also ordered an audit of this year’s school budget. On Wednesday, the board is expected to sign on CliftonLarsonAllen for the audit.
The firm that’s qualified to perform municipal audits will conduct a forensic analysis and examination of the school district’s books and records for Fiscal 2018.
