Missing Billboard Portrait Found

October 16, 1987

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Parts of a billboard featuring portraits of the late pop artist Andy Warhol were found by police Thursday in an abandoned house near the busy street where it was stolen.

″Apparently the culprits did not go very far,″ said Nello Giorgetti, spokesman for Patrick Media Group Inc., which donated space for the 14-by-48 foot painting.

Someone apparently climbed atop of an auto parts store below the billboard and removed three panels, each weighing more than 100 pounds, Giorgetti said.

The missing panels, still in good shape, were being put back Thursday afternoon, he said.

The Warhol-like work, painted by Pittsburgh billboard artist Greg Puchalski, features four faces of Warhol and the words, ″Pittsburgh Remembers Andy Warhol, 1928-1987.″

Warhol, who was born Andrew Warhola in nearby McKeesport, died in February in New York City.
