Furman 35, Citadel 25

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Furman tight end Luther Broughton scored two touchdowns and helped the Paladins to a 35-25 victory Saturday.

Broughton made a leaping grab in the back of the end zone for a first-quarter touchdown. He took a pass from quarterback Braniff Bonaventure and ran 28 yards for a second touchdown early in the third quarter.

Bonaventure was 13 of 20 for 181 yards for the Paladins (6-1, 4-0 Southern Conference.)

Despite trailing by as many as 25 points, The Citadel (2-4, 1-3) controlled much of the action. The Bulldogs gained 450 yards overall and passed for 263 yards.

Furman set a school record of eight sacks.

The Citadel got on the board with 8:46 left in the first half on a 43-yard field goal by Justin Skinner.

A fumble by fullback Kenyatta Spruill at The Citadel’s 27-yard line was recovered by Furman’s Michael Brown. The Paladins scored following the fumble on a 3-yard Ernest Crosby run. The touchdown was set up on fourth down with 13 yards to go.

The Paladins increased their lead to 21-3 on their first possession of the second half. Broughton caught his second touchdown pass on a 28-yard pass from Bonaventure.

The Citadel scored its first touchdown with 11:08 left in the game. A 56-yard drive ended with a 2-yard run by quarterback Stanley Myers.
