NY state senator’s aide pleads not guilty to assault charges
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A senior aide to a New York state senator has pleaded not guilty to felony domestic assault charges.
Robert Nickol entered his plea Friday during an arraignment in Albany County Court. The 32-year-old is accused of injuring a woman by striking her leg with a television cord last year. He also faces a felony strangulation charge related to an alleged incident in 2015.
The Times Union of Albany reports that following the arraignment Nickols was released subject to supervision by a probation officer.
Nickols serves as counsel to Sen. William Larkin, an Orange County Republican.
Larkin’s office said Nickols has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.
Nickol’s attorney, James Knox, noted that his client has no criminal history.
