Aquinas def. No. 7 Scotus

28-30, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-4

The Monarchs controlled play early jumping out to a 13-5 first-set lead before the Shamrocks came storming back, saving four set points along the way. Scotus used that momentum for a second set win and looked on the brink until an Aquinas comeback tilted the play heavily in the Monarchs’ favor. Aquinas led the fourth set 22-8 at one point and was ahead 14-1 in the fourth. The win gives the Monarchs their first over their rival since 1988.

“They’ve been a great program and it’s been battles. The battle has been going on for a long time, and I guess if you drop one every 30 years you kind of got to give them credit for that one,” Scotus coach Janet Tooley said. “They just played lights out. We didn’t get it done.”
