Former Nebraska volleyball player Mikaela Foecke started a match for the second time for the United States women’s national volleyball team and helped the Americans defeat Bulgaria 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 on Thursday in Ruse, Bulgaria.

The United States concluded the first week of the six-week FIVB Volleyball Nations League tournament with a 3-0 record. Next week, the Americans will travel to Italy and face a tougher set of matches against Serbia, Italy and the Dominican Republic.

Foecke, who graduated from Nebraska earlier this month, had eight kills on a .333 hitting percentage, two blocks and one ace serve Thursday.

Foecke will not be available to make the U.S. roster for Week 2 of the tournament because she’ll return to America for her wedding.

“Unfortunately, we will not be able to take Mikaela Foecke with us,” said U.S. coach Karch Kiraly in a news release. “We were certainly excited to do that, but she has bigger and more important things to do as she is getting married a week from Saturday.”

The U.S. roster for Week 2 will be announced later this week.
