York Street late night vehicle accident causes road closure, power outages
Part of York Street was temporarily closed early Tuesday morning due to an accident involving a single vehicle.
The accident occurred late Monday night when a vehicle struck a pole, according to Aiken Department of Public Safety public information officer David Turno.
Traffic was diverted northbound on Kershaw Street, with southbound traffic diverted onto Rutland Drive until the road reopened around 2:00 p.m.
According to SCE&G’s website, 63 people in the surrounding area experienced outages.
SCE&G crews worked to repair the damage, according to a tweet by the City of Aiken twitter account, with power being successfully restored by the time the road reopened.
It is unknown if anyone was injured or killed in the collision, Turno said.
