Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ to Present Three Satellite Symposia at the APhA2019 Annual Meeting and Exposition

CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb 12, 2019--Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ ( PT CE), a leader in continuing education for retail, health-system, managed care and specialty pharmacists, will conduct three continuing education satellite symposia in conjunction with APhA2019, the annual meeting and exposition of the American Pharmacists Association, March 23 and 24 at the Grand Hyatt Seattle in Washington, announced Jim Palatine, R.Ph., MBA , president of PT CE.

Advancements in Migraine Therapies: Opportunities for Pharmacists to Intervene, which will be held Saturday, March 23, from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. PST in the Princessa Ballroom. Faculty presenters for this program include Nikki Hahn, Pharm.D., BCACP, a clinical pharmacy specialist in neurology at Kaiser Permanente in Colorado; and Paul G. Mathew, M.D., FAAN, FAHS, an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, director of continuing medical education at Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s department of neurology at John R. Graham Headache Center and co-chief medical editor of the journal Practical Neurology. During this live interactive symposium, key experts will examine the clinical features associated with migraines, explain safety and efficacy of newly approved agents for migraines and identify opportunities for pharmacists to intervene to optimize migraine treatment and prevent adverse drug events. Exploring the Clinical Benefits of Antiviral Therapy in Decreasing Complications Associated with the Influenza Virus, which will be held Sunday, March 24, from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. PST in the Leonesa Ballroom. Faculty presenters for this program include James S. Lewis, Pharm.D., FIDSA, clinical supervisor for infectious disease at Oregon Health and Science University; and Carrie Foust-Koenigsfeld, Pharm.D., an associate professor in the department of pharmacy practice at Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. During this live interactive symposium, key experts will explore the etiology, pathophysiology and patient populations at high risk of influenza-related complications; explain the mechanisms of action and adverse effect profiles of available and recently approved antivirals for treating the influenza virus; and identify the role of the community pharmacist in educating patients about available and recently approved antivirals for treatment of the influenza virus. An Update for Pharmacists on the Evolving Management of Patients with HIV, which will be held Sunday, March 24, from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. PST in the Princessa Ballroom. Faculty presenters for this program include Erik K. Farmer, Pharm.D., BCPS, AAHIVP, an HIV clinical pharmacist at Indiana University Health; and Linda M. Spooner, Pharm.D., BCPS (AQ-IS), FASHP, FCCP, a professor of pharmacy practice at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. During this live interactive symposium, key experts will provide a review of the management of persons living with HIV infection, including knowledge of updated guidelines, new treatment options and the landscape of emerging therapies.
