US Fighter Makes Emergency Landing
TOKYO (AP) _ A U.S. fighter made a safe emergency landing at an airport in western Japan today. No one was injured.
The F-18 from Iwakuni, a U.S. Marine Corps base in southwestern Japan, landed safely at Iwami Airport in Shimane Prefecture, or state, 380 miles west of Tokyo, said Lt. Col. Billy Birdwell, spokesman for U.S. Forces in Japan.
The jet, which had one pilot aboard, made the landing after developing fuel and navigation problems, said Shimane official Hiroshi Fujihara.
