Scranton Police Looking For Juveniles Who They Believe Vandalized An Iron Sculpture

September 18, 2018

SCRANTON — Police are trying to identify a group of juveniles who they believe pushed a half-ton iron statue down an embankment at the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail earlier this month.

Surveillance camera footage appears to show a group of five juveniles.

Vandals rolled a 1,000-pound cast-iron sculpture 100 yards from its home alongside a spur trail off the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, down a ravine and into a murky waterway. The vandalism was discovered earlier this month, when artist Vaughn Randall arrived in town Tuesday to pick up the piece and ship it to a buyer. The buyer, set to purchase the work for $10,000, has since canceled the deal.

Anyone with information should call the Scranton Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 570-348-4139.
