Correction: Inmate Death story

LAS VEGAS (AP) — In a story April 7 about an inmate’s death, The Associated Press, relying on information from the Nevada Department of Corrections, erroneously reported that the inmate George R. Papania was serving time for a manslaughter conviction. Papania was serving time for an animal cruelty conviction.

A 71-year-old man serving time for an animal cruelty conviction in Nevada has died at a hospital

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 71-year-old man serving time for an animal cruelty conviction in Nevada has died at a hospital.

The Nevada Department of Corrections says 71-year-old George R. Papania died April 4 at a hospital in Las Vegas.

Papania was serving two consecutive sentences of 12 to 30 months for willfully and maliciously torturing or unjustifiably maiming, mutilating or killing a dog. He bred Italian greyhounds.

He was previously incarcerated at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs.

An autopsy will be scheduled.
