E. Central U. 74, Purdue-Calumet 61
JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) _ Rebecca Cotton scored 24 points and Gina Farmer added 21 and grabbed 17 rebounds as East Central of Oklahoma beat Purdue-Calumet 74-61 Thursday at the NAIA Division I tournament.
East Central (30-4) took advantage of foul trouble for unseeded Purdue-Calumet (27-5). Tanya Popiela, who finished with 19, picked up her fourth foul before halftime and spent much of the second half on the bench.
The seventh-seeded Lady Tigers then worked the ball inside to Cotton and Farmer. East Central led 32-24 at intermission and used a second-half 7-0 run keyed by five points by Farmer for a 41-28 lead they never lost.
Gina Sanders added 15 points for East Central, making its first tournament appearance.
Michelle Russell finished with 26 points to lead Purdue-Calumet, also in its first tourney game. Natalie Shadowen had 11.
