COOS BAY — Mason Gill turned in a double-double, leading the Sutherlin boys basketball team to a 52-39 win over Crook Country of Prineville on Saturday in the consolation final of the South Coast Les Schwab Tournament at Marshfield High School.

Gill, a junior wing, finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds. He had 12 points in the third quarter.

Brandon Carr chipped in 14 points and five assists for the 3A Bulldogs (8-2). The junior guard scored eight points in the fourth period.

Sutherlin led 18-13 at halftime. Tyler Humeston scored 15 points for the 5A Cowboys (5-3).

“We played exceptional defense in the first half,” said Sutherlin coach Willis New. “They hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter and took the lead, but we came charging back and took control of the game. Mason (Gill) was very aggressive, he looked solid today.”

The Bulldogs travel to Creswell Tuesday for a nonleague contest.
