AP Clarifies EBay-Copycat Story

August 7, 2001

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ In a story July 30 about a lawsuit by eBay Inc. against rival BidBay.com, The Associated Press reported that Wes Cooley, a BidBay vice president and former congressman, was convicted of lying about his record in the Oregon Voters’ Pamphlet and sentenced to two years of probation.

Cooley’s conviction, which occurred in March 1997, was set aside last year. Oregon law provides that convictions for certain minor crimes may be set aside when all conditions of a sentence have been satisfactorily discharged.
