DC Powerball Winner Still Elusive
WASHINGTON (AP) _ The grand prize winner of Saturday’s Powerball lottery is keeping an extremely low profile two days after the drawing.
District of Columbia lottery officials were still waiting Monday to hear from the person who bought the winning ticket at a liquor store in the city.
The top prize was worth $48 million, but the winner selected a lump sum payment instead of annual payments. That cut the prize to $24.5 million, or about $17.6 million after federal taxes, a lottery official said.
The purchaser used the ``quick pick″ feature, which lets the computer select the numbers.
This is the ninth time someone who bought a ticket in the district has won the grand prize in the multistate game.
