Bitter cold continues to blanket northern Illinois
CHICAGO (AP) — Cold continues to hold northern Illinois and northwest Indiana in its grip.
The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the low teens during the day Saturday, dropping to four to 11 degrees below zero at night.
The weather service forecasts that light to moderate snow will persist, mainly south of Interstate 80. By the time it ends early Saturday, snowfall amounts will range from around 3″ in some spots south of I-80, to an inch or less to the north.
Although a wind chill advisory for northeast Illinois and parts of central Illinois and northwest Indiana has expired, the cold snap is forecast to last until Monday and will be followed by more extreme cold.
The weather service forecast predicts lows Tuesday and Wednesday of around 20 degrees below zero in northern Illinois.
