Second annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast set for Monday

NORFOLK - In celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the 2nd annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Breakfast will be held in his honor.

The Mayor’s Diversity Council in partnership with Northeast Community College Hawks United, is hosting the breakfast at the Lifelong Learning Center on the campus of Northeast Community College.

Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. Monday with the program and breakfast served beginning at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 8:15 a.m.

The public is invited to the event, but because seating is limited RSVP’s are strongly encouraged.

The featured speaker for the event is Raponzil Drake, pastor of Norfolk First United Methodist Church. She was one of the first students of color to integrate the local public school system after mandated integration laws were implemented in the 1970’s.
