Love Lock Wins at Hollywood Park

December 14, 1997

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Trainer D. Wayne Lukas has used the Hollywood Starlet as a launching pad for rising stars from his barn.

The latest is Love Lock, who cruised to an 11-length victory in Saturday’s $291,000 Starlet at Hollywood Park and became Lukas’ fourth straight and sixth winner overall in the Grade I race for 2-year-old fillies.

Ridden by Kent Desormeaux, Love Lock covered 1 1-16 miles in 1:42 and paid $9.80, $2.80 and $2.10, coupled in the wagering with fourth-place Well Chosen.

``This race has been awful good to us,″ said Lukas, who won his first Starlet with Althea in 1983.

His current streak began in 1994 with Serena’s Song, followed by Cara Rafaela in 1995 and Sharp Cat last year. His other Starlet win came with Cuddles in 1990.

Career Collection, second in last month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies here, returned $2.40 and $2.10, while Snowberg was another two lengths back in third and paid $2.10 to show.

The minimum show prices across the board were due to a $90,000 show wager on Career Collection by an unidentified patron at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

Love Lock, a winner of four of nine career starts for earnings of $488,522, finished ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last month here.
