MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Cyrus Caldwell scored a career-high 20 points and sank a shot at the buzzer Thursday night as Wisconsin-Milwaukee snapped a three-game losing streak with a 55-54 victory over Northeastern Illinois.

Mark Heidersbach, who made five 3-pointers, scored 16 points to lead Northeastern (3-2).

But UWM (3-5) held Andrell Hoard, who was averaging 20.3 points a game, to just 11 points and William Keys, who was averaging 18 points, to 4 points.

Northeastern led 47-36 after a 3-pointer by Heidersbach with 9:25 left. But UWM, led by Caldwell, who had 15 points in the half, charged back to within a point at 54-53 on a basket by Caldwell with 26 seconds left.

UWM got the ball back with 10 seconds left after Northeastern lost it out of bounds and Caldwell made a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer to win the game.

Daveeno Hines scored 10 points to help Northeastern to a 31-24 lead at intermission.

The Panthers had an early 11-3 lead after a 9-0 run but the Golden Eagles, led by Hines with 6 points, came back to tie it 13-13 with a 10-2 scoring surge of their own. The Panthers were on top again at 20-17 after a basket by Roderick Johnson, but the Golden Eagles outscored the Panthers 7-0, with Heidersbach ending it with a 3-pointer for a 24-20 lead and Northeastern stayed in front the rest of the period.
