Ecuadorians celebrate independence from Spain in downtown Stamford

August 27, 2018

STAMFORD — A crowd gathered in downtown Columbus Park Sunday to celebrate Ecuador’s Independence Day.

Danczarte Ecuador performed a traditional Bomba dance for the holiday, traditionally celebrated on Aug. 10, to mark when the capital city Quito broke away from Spain in 1809. Maria Therea Larrea was named the madrina, or godmother, of this year’s celebration and Patricia Alexandra, known as the voice of the Andes, performed a song.
