Area prep athletic events postponed

With more rain in the forecast on Thursday, more area high school athletic contests were canceled or postponed.

La Porte’s Unified track meet at Lake Central was washed out. The makeup date is Monday at 5 p.m. LP’s varsity and JV baseball home games vs. Lake Central were postponed to today at 4:30 p.m. Varsity and JV softball between La Porte and Valparaiso were moved to Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in LP. The girls tennis between the Slicers and Lake Central was rained out to Monday at 4:15 p.m. in LP.

Marquette’s baseball matchup with LaCrosse on Thursday was postponed. No makeup date has been announced. Michigan City’s home Unified track meet was postponed. No makeup date has been announced. The varsity and JV baseball between the Wolves and Calumet in City was postponed. There’s no makeup date for either contest.

For New Prairie, girls tennis against John Glenn was moved from yesterday to Monday with a 3 p.m. scheduled start. Monday’s previously scheduled match for the Cougars at La Lumiere has been moved to Tuesday with a 4 p.m. start. South Central’s boys and girls track meet against Lake Station and North Judson on Thursday was postponed. No makeup date has been announced. SC’s varsity baseball home game against Boone Grove was postponed to Monday at 4:30 p.m., and the softball game originally scheduled for Monday against North Judson has been canceled for the Satellites to make up Thursday’s postponed game against Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. at S.C.

La Porte has added a varsity softball doubleheader May 18 at 10 a.m. at Carroll (Fort Wayne).

La Porte Slicer Baseball Summer Camp

The La Porte Slicer baseball coaching staff and players will conduct the annual summer baseball camp June 10-June 13 for students currently in Kindergarten through fifth grade, at Schreiber Field. Times are: K-second grade, 10-11:25 a.m.; and third-fifth grade, 11:30 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Cost of the camp will be $40 per player. Players should wear tennis shoes or cleats, shorts, sweat pants, or baseball pants and a T-shirt. Players should bring baseball gloves. Instructors will be La Porte High School baseball players and coaches. Registration due date is June 4. Players will receive a T-shirt, but they can’t assure T-shirt sizes on late registrations. Slicers boys track drops DAC contest

La Porte’s boys track team fell 79.5-51.5 at Lake Central on Tuesday. The Slicers’ Mitchell Gits claimed first in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200 runs, and Chaise Magnuson won the 110 hurdles. Jaxon Millard broke the freshman school record in the 200 (23.38), and Cole Raymond broke the school record in the 800 (2:00.93).

Blazers girls tennis blanks Noll

Sydni Thomas (two singles), Caitie Gately (three singles) and Emily Silvas-Kennedy Lynn (one doubles) won matches without dropping a game in Marquette’s 5-0 girls tennis home win Wednesday over Bishop Noll. Jade Isbell took one singles 6-0, 6-2, and Paige Pizarek and Ellie Williams captured two doubles 6-0, 6-1 for the Blazers (6-4).

Leadership La Porte County Golf Outing

The Leadership La Porte County 17th Annual Golf Outing will be May 17 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Michigan City Municipal Golf Course. Join them for a day of fun and support Leadership La Porte County by registering your team today. Each team will participate in a shotgun start, best ball scramble event. There will be prizes for the top performers, lunch and many great door prizes. Cost to attend is $300 per team. Purchase a tee sign for $100.

La Porte County Lions Club golf tourney

Six La Porte County Lions Clubs have again organized a golf tournament on May 24. Let’s Golf for Charity will be at Beechwood Golf Course in La Porte with a scramble format. There’s no rain date. Registration and a light lunch begin at 10:30 a.m., chipping and putting contests at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start will be at noon. Dinner, team awards and cash bar begin at 4:30 p.m.

The cost to play is $75 per golfer, $300 per team, which includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner, goodie bag, team and individual awards. Deadline for entries is May 10. The limit is 144 golfers, first come, first served. The entry form can be downloaded at: www.rollingprairielions.org, from Beechwood Golf Course, or from a Lion. LP selling FB Hall of Fame tickets

La Porte graduate Lambert (Lamby) Lamberson will be among the Region 1 inductees to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Ceremonies will be held during Sunday’s banquet at Avalon in Merrillville. Lamberson, who was named to La Porte’s Hubner Hall of Fame in 2018, is part of a group that includes Bob Bartolomeo (Andrean), Bob Mattix (Portage), Joe Sullivan (Andrean), Randy Tumblin (Portage), George Stroia (Official), Stan Dobosz and Bill Holzbach (East Chicago Roosevelt) and Frank Thomas (East Chicago Washington). Tickets ($40) can be purchased at the La Porte High School Athletics office.

House of Hope sports signups

House of Hope sports clinic singups for kids of all ages are rapidly approaching. Dates for registration are this Saturday, April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18 at 2601 East Michigan Blvd. in Michigan City. All signup windows are from from 10 a.m.-Noon. The fees for the clinics are $10 or $20 for a “season” fee. Team and field sponsors, as well as volunteer coaches and workouts are welcomed.
