Man Brings Bodies to Police Station
TOKYO (AP) _ A man drove a van to a police station in central Japan on Monday with the bodies of four people he said he had killed.
Yasuo Takeda, 52, took the bodies of his wife, 38, his mother, 80, and two children, a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter to officers at the Gifu-Minami police station in Gifu city, 170 miles west of Tokyo, said Itsuo Ohashi, a police spokesman.
He admitted killing the four, but his motive and the time and location of the slayings were not immediately known, Ohashi said. All four bodies showed signs of having been strangled with some kind of rope or string, he said.
According to National Police Agency records, 1,265 murders occurred in Japan in 1999. That murder rate per capita is far lower than in many other developed countries.
