I-80 ramps at Wood River reopen following incident with pickup driver
Law enforcement officers closed down the Interstate 80 entrance and exit ramps near Wood River for more than an hour Friday while negotiating with a driver who refused to exit his pickup truck.
A trooper first tried to stop the pickup after being told it was swerving along the interstate’s eastbound lanes near Kearney. As he followed the pickup, the trooper saw a firearm inside, according to a patrol news release.
The driver eventually called 911, and was connected with a State Patrol crisis negotiator. Meanwhile, troopers followed the pickup and used spike strips to deflate at least one of its tires near the Wood River exit.
The pickup exited the interstate there, and troopers continued their conversations with the man for more than an hour until he voluntarily left the truck at 11:25 a.m.
He was taken into emergency protective custody.
