Video shows Arkansas police helicopter crash during takeoff

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — A pilot of a police helicopter was seriously injured when the copter crashed moments after it lifted off the ground.

KATV Channel 7 reports retired officer William “Bill” Denio was testing new equipment in the 2001 Bell TH-67 when it crashed last week.

Denio was taken to a hospital with a serious head injury and is recovering.

The video shows the helicopter lift off from a small platform and immediately encounter trouble. According to USA Today, police blamed strong winds for causing the copter to go astray.

One of the landing skids on the helicopter eventually catches on the platform and it turns on its side, shredding the rotor blades.
