Grocery store employee shot to death inside Alabama store
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A 28-year-old employee of an Alabama grocery store was shot to death inside the store.
News outlets report the Christmas Eve shooting happened shortly before noon when someone entered the store in Birmingham and started an altercation with a woman working one of the registers. The suspect fled before police arrived. No arrests have been made.
Sgt. Johnny Williams identified the victim as Jerika Manuel.
Manuel is Birmingham’s 105th homicide victim this year. Of those at least seven have been ruled justifiable and therefore police will not include those in their year-end tally. The city finished 2017 with 111 homicides.
