May 1, 2019

DeKALB – Two people were killed when a pickup truck and a semi-trailer collided head-on on Route 23 south of DeKalb on Wednesday, police said.

The crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. A woman who was driving the pickup truck and a man who was a passenger both were killed, according to DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies.

One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other died on the way to a nearby hospital, police said.

The driver of the semi-trailer was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries, officials said.

A Sheriff’s deputy at the scene said the pickup was southbound on Route 23 when it crossed the center line, and the northbound semi was unable to avoid it.

Route 23 will be closed in the area between Perry and Elva roads while first responders investigate and clear the crash scene.
