No. 5 Texas Tech 74, Okla. State 48
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) _ Alicia Thompson scored 18 points, and No. 5 Texas Tech rode a tenacious defense to a 74-48 victory Wednesday night over poor-shooting Oklahoma State.
The victory gave the Lady Raiders (11-2, 4-0 Big 12) sole possession of first place in the conference. Oklahoma State, (10-4, 3-1) ended a seven-game winning streak.
Thompson scored 12 points in the first half, and Tech used a late 23-6 run to build a 39-23 lead at the break.
The Lady Raiders held Renee Roberts, OSU’s leading scorer, pointless until her basket with 6.8 seconds left in the game. She came in averaging 13.2 points.
The rest of the Oklahoma State players didn’t fare much better. Overall, the team shot 30.8 percent from the field and committed 29 turnovers. Cheri Edwards led OSU with 17 points, while Devon Magness chipped in 11.
Tech put the game away with an 8-0 run that made it 58-38 with 8:43 remaining. From that point on, Tech held OSU to just two field goals.
Angie Braziel added 17 points for Tech.
