Oakland’s Prieto Asks for Raise
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Oakland right-hander Ariel Prieto, who hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since April 1998, asked an arbitration panel Wednesday for a raise from $210,000 to $500,000.
The Athletics countered at $300,000. A decision is expected Thursday.
Prieto, 30, is recovering from reconstructive elbow and shoulder surgery and hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since April 19, 1998. He was Oakland’s opening day starter in 1997.
The case was heard by arbitrators Stephen Goldberg, James Gross and Ted High. Prieto is the only Oakland player who filed for arbitration.
