Mom killed, child hurt in 2nd fatal pedestrian crash on road
WAYNE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey mother was killed and her 6-year-old child was seriously injured when they were hit by a car on a northern New Jersey street, marking the second pedestrian death on the roadway in two days.
Wayne police say the two victims were crossing Valley Road when they were struck about 7 p.m. Tuesday.
They were taken to a hospital, where the woman died a short time later. The child suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized Wednesday, but further details were not disclosed.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The crash came a day after Rosa Nikhamina, a 78-year-old Wayne resident, was struck and killed by a pickup truck.
No charges have been filed in either accident. But authorities say the investigations are ongoing.
