SEATTLE (AP) _ Scott Thomsen, a newsman in the Phoenix bureau of The Associated Press, has been named news editor for the cooperative in Washington state.

AP Seattle Chief of Bureau Dale Leach announced the appointment Wednesday.

Thomsen succeeds Nancy Roberts Trott, who has been named a regional news editor in the AP's Washington, D.C. bureau.

Thomsen, 35, is a 1989 graduate of the University of Arizona and worked as a reporter at The Orange County (Calif.) Register, the Portland (Me.) Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram and The Gazette of Colorado Springs, Colo., before joining the AP in Phoenix in 1999.

In Phoenix, Thomsen has covered politics, the Arizona legislature and served as a regular supervisor of the state news report.
