MOSCOW (AP) _ Russia rolled out a new amphibious civilian plane Saturday based on a warplane design, a news report said.

The Be-200 can be used as a 70-seat passenger plane, a cargo craft or a firefighting plane, said Vladimir Kovalkov, director of the Irkutsk Aircraft Building Association.

The aircraft is based on the amphibious warplane Be-40, the ITAR-Tass news agency quoted Kovalkov as saying. Russian, American, British, Swiss and Ukrainian companies helped design the new version.

The plane was introduced in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, about 2,600 miles east of Moscow.
