Boys soccer: Goslings split pair at Waunakee
WAUNAKEE — Watertown’s boys soccer team split two matches on Saturday, falling to Waukesha North 5-1 and defeated Seymour 2-0.
Waukesha North senior Bryan Benitez torched the Goslings with four goals. Aiden McCarthy scored Watertown’s lone goal at the 70-minute mark on an assist from Luis Guadalupe.
In the win over Seymour, Guadalupe and Jacob Narkis scored first half goals. Clayton Haase had the assist on both goals.
Eli Piasecki made nine saves against Waukesha North. Colton Blome stopped 14 shots in net in Watertown’s win over Seymour.
“Seymour was more at our level, in terms of technical skills,” Watertown boys soccer coach Hayden Knight said. “It was a good match for us. We needed it. In the first five minutes against Waukesha North, I thought we were going to win because of the way we were playing our style. But after eight or nine minutes, they went back to some style I’ve never seen before. That was the talk after that game. Against Seymour, I kept insisting we play a certain style and they did that. I think they came away with more confidence. I am trying to re-program every player on the team to play a certain way and make it look like soccer. For the most part, they are responding well.”
Watertown (1-3) travels to face Poynette/Portage Tuesday.
