NEW YORK _ The arrest of singer R. Kelly has focused the lens of the #MeToo movement on young victims of sexual abuse. Experts say there are many reasons why girls don’t come forward when they are abused. They’re often at a disadvantage because the abusers are powerful people in their lives. They may fear being punished if it’s someone they’ve dated, ostracized if it’s a relative, or stigmatized if it’s someone at school. Lara Kaufmann of Girls Inc. says that victim-blaming is common.
