Dubai Sheiks Running 2-Year-Olds
NEW YORK (AP) _ Godolphin Racing, Inc., the Dubai arm of Sheiks Maktoum and Mohammed al Matoum’s international racing empire, plans to race 2-year-old horses in the United States under trainer Eoin Harty.
``The establishment of a satellite 2-year-old operation in the United States is a natural step forward for Godolphin, with its international outlook,″ Simon Crisford, Godolphin Racing manager, said Wednesday.
Harty, a 37-year-old assistant to trainer Bob Baffert for seven years, is to move to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in January. He will bring 32 yearlings to the United States in April.
Godolphin has yet to decide where it will locate the 2-year-olds. But at the end of their juvenile campaigns they are to return to Dubai for the winter. They will then become part of the main Godolphin operation run by trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
One of Godolphin’s goals is to win a Kentucky Derby. In its first try this year, Worldly Manner finished seventh.
