Esther H. Johnston, 98, of Bourbonnais, and formerly of Momence, passed away Thursday (Nov. 22, 2018) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
She was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Lowell, Ind., the daughter of Spencer and Flora Beebe Hunt.
Esther married Franklin Hamann in 1944. He preceded her in death in the European Theatre during World War II. She then married William Johnston on Oct. 28, 1947, in Grant Park. He preceded her in death July 30, 2005.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, William “BJ” Johnston and Stacy Mancke, of Momence; one brother-in-law, Albert Johnston, of Kankakee; and one sister-in-law, Christine Johnston, of Momence.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters.
Esther had been a bookkeeper for Momence Federal Savings and Loan and for the Momence Community School District.
She had been a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Momence.
Esther enjoyed playing Bridge and Pinochle as well as watching television and reading. She also was proud of having graduated from the Grant Park School system where she was a member of the high school cheerleading squad.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, until the 10 a.m. funeral services at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence. Interment will follow in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Township.
